01 / The company scoreboard

“Best” depends on the brief.

A home renovation and a commercial fit-out need different things. Our comparisons start there.

02 / The project notebook

Start with the right questions.

Buying guide / 01
Steel or steel-look? Check what you’re actually buying.

Slim frames alone don’t tell you the material. A steel-look door may use aluminium or another construction. Ask for the frame material and product specification, rather than relying on the style description.

Compare sightlines, glazing, finish, hardware and installation scope on a like-for-like basis. For external doors, request evidence of thermal and weather performance for the exact system being quoted.

Put this in your enquiry

“Please confirm the frame material, glazing specification, overall dimensions and what is included in installation.”

02 / Residential projects

How to brief a supplier for your home

Share opening dimensions, photographs and whether the door is internal or external. Explain how you want it to open and who will prepare the opening. Ask whether a site survey is included, and agree responsibility for final measurements before manufacture.

03 / Commercial projects

Performance before aesthetics

Describe the building use, expected traffic and accessibility needs. Ask your project team to define fire, security and escape-route requirements. A steel frame alone does not establish a fire rating: request evidence for the complete specified assembly.

04 / Quote comparisons

Look beyond the headline price

Compare supply, survey, delivery, installation, glazing and finishing separately. Check exclusions, VAT, payment stages and the warranty terms. Ask when the lead time starts and what happens if the opening is not ready.

03 / Behind the shortlist

Clear sources.
Visible caveats.

Our planned ranked lists will compare companies within a defined use case, not award one universal “best” badge. Each published comparison should identify its sources, assessment date, criteria and gaps in the evidence.

Product claims need supporting documentation; project claims need attributable examples. Supplier-provided information will be labelled as such. We have not yet published verified rankings, usage data or numerical scores.

BestSteelDoors.co.uk has a commercial relationship with Fabco. Promotional inclusion must remain separate from evidence-based scoring, and that relationship will be disclosed wherever relevant.
